Mass of the Resurrection will be offered Saturday, Jan. 24, at St Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson for Judy Cosens, 73, of Jefferson.
Father Jeff Schleisman will be celebrant. Lectors will be Bethany Fountain and CPT Larry Harris. Gift bearers will be Phil Kennedy and CPT Maggie Harris. Michelle Fields will be pianist and Mary Jane Fields will be soloist. Honorary bearers will be Greg Ruth COL Darrell Fountain (Ret.), Dennis Louk, Haily Larson, Mitchell Larson, Kayla Ruth, Bethany Fountain, CPT Maggie Harris, Joey Godwin and Kacie Fountain, and Judy’s great-grandchildren Hunter, Cassady, McKenna and Finn Ruth and Luke Larson. Lois Strawn and Janelle Lowmiller will also be honorary bearers. Friendship isn’t a big thing; it’s a lot of little things.
Casket bearers will be Tyson Ruth, Jerad Ruth, 2LT Jake Fountain, Cory Cosens, Chad Cosens , Bo Cosens and Hunter Ruth. Interment will be at the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery.

Judy Cosens was born June 2, 1941 at the Greene County Hospital in Jefferson, Iowa, to Anna and John Clark. She attended Jefferson Community Schools and went on to earn her LPN degree from DMACC. Judy then served 17 years as a nurse at the Greene County Medical Center. Prior to becoming an LPN Judy was the proprietor of a ceramics shop.
In 1958, Judy married Russell Cosens. They had three children—Maralie, Melody, and Mark. As an avid motorcycle enthusiast, Judy particularly enjoyed riding alongside Russ on family trips.
Judy was very active in the community, coaching little and senior league softball. Judy and Russ also coached little league baseball together. She was a stalwart supporter of Jefferson Ram Sports and any activity featuring her grandchildren.
Judy Cosens died Jan. 22, 2015, at the Greene County Medical Center. She was 73 years of age. She is preceded in death by her parents, Anna (Clark) Kennedy and John Clark; her stepfather Dan Kennedy; a sister, Becky Nash; brothers Doug Clark, Dennis Kennedy; and Stanley Clark; and her son Mark Cosens.
She is survived by her husband Russell Cosens of Jefferson; daughters Maralie (Greg) Ruth of Jefferson and Melody (COL Ret Darrell) Fountain of Carlisle, PA; nine grandchildren, Tyson Ruth of Jefferson, Jared Ruth (Kayla) of North Liberty, and Haily (Mitchell) Larson of Jefferson; Bethany Fountain of Carlisle, PA, CPT Maggie (CPT Larry) Harris of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA, and 2LT Jake Fountain (Kacie) of Fort Benning, GA; Cory Cosens and Chad Cosens of Madrid and, Bo Cosens of Creston; and daughter-in-law Darcy Cosens Wright of Madrid, IA; five great-grandchildren, Hunter, Cassady, and McKenna Ruth of Jefferson, Finn Ruth of North Liberty, and Luke Larson of Jefferson; siblings Joan Richards of Barwick-Ontario, Canada, and Phil (Deb) Kennedy of Grimes, IA; and a brother-in-law Bob (Jean) Cosens (Jean) of Spirit Lake; as well as other relatives and friends. Memorials are suggested to the family.
